Science fiction for Tommy
Eggsy is new to the colony.
He doesn't remember his youngest years, his birth in one of Earth's few remaining settlements - those few clusters of people who'd never stood a chance of leaving an increasingly toxic and volatile environment. He doesn't remember being snatched up by the White Mothers, a sect of women responsible for identifying and adopting those with...unusual talents.
He was raised in a strange mix of extreme material luxury and punishing physical challenge. He eats well, has the best medical care the colony can provide, and sleeps in perfect comfort in the climate-controlled safety of the White Academy. In daylight, he trains until his legs give out and his knuckles bleed.
He's fast; he's strong; his reaction time is so far unmatched that the Mothers speculate he has some unconscious glimpse of foresight. He heals fast, not instantaneously, but enough that those bleeding knuckles will be forgotten after a good night's sleep.
He is sent to a border planet when he turns twenty-one. He will lead the vanguard that explores the far reaches of this half-conquered world; it is he who will plant the empire's standard.
But here, he's a newcomer to the Governor's Palace, about to be introduced to the servant who'll be attending his every whim in the months and years to come.
